Search terms not being retained when returning to the results page

Search terms not being retained when returning to the results page

The old DA search used to create a session that was retained whenever the user returned to the results page, ensuring the user didn't have to reenter the search term.

I did ask in a different thread sometime back, but I've been a bit busy and thought I'd create a new thread. Basically, you said it should still retain the search terms when a user returns to the results page, but mine isn't. Ordinarily, I would enable a user to manually kill the session in order to display all results again, but it's automatically displaying all.

So, how can I overcome this issue?

I've attached the results page with the search form in it. I have added @session_start(), but it didn't do anything.

Thanks.

The session_start() shouldn't be needed (it is added automatically when needed).

Do you have the latest version of the rsobj.php file uploaded? If you give me FTP access and a URL to reproduce then I can debug it and get it fixed for you.

Sorry Ray, I don't have it up on a live server yet due to the live site being in use. I don't want users finding half built pages yet.

I've found the rsobj file and it is v2.6. I've added it for you just in case it's of any use.

If there is a later version, can you send it to me please?

Thanks.

The latest version is v2.20... I think v2.6 is a much earlier BETA version. I've attached the latest, but it would also be included if you reinstalled the extension and opened any recordset and clicked "ok"... that would overwrite your local version so it could be uploaded.

OK, Thanks Ray. I'll give that a go.

I've just noticed that the URL of older search pages showing results simply ends with .php. The newer version of search ends with .php?search=chrysler for example where chrysler is the search term.

I assume that's why I am not retaining the search crteria at the mo.

No that doesn't matter. That is just the difference between using a form method="post" or method="get"... The preferred method is get (like in the newer version where it appears in the url) so that the results can be shared or bookmarked. It is unrelated to the saved search since that should work with either method.
