Membership Management w/Barcode reader

I want to build a gym membership management site that uses a barcode reader. I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My initial recommendation would be to get a scanner for your development and testing.

I personally use the Metrologic Voyager single-line laser scanner, or an Orbit hands-free omnidirectional laser scanner. Either model would cover your needs I think. As being an omnidirecitonal unit the Orbit offers a greater ease of use over the single line option.

That's a starting point for you.

Website Using Barcode Scanner register members

Thank you. I'm looking to build the site that translates the data (gym member) to a member database that let's me know if they are in good standing (paid dues.) Have you built a site like this?

To say that I've created a specific Gym Membership tool wouldn't be true, but I'm sure that doing so with with a Browser interface and a MySQL / PHP backend using Dreamweaver and some of the product extensions available from WebAssist would be pretty easy to create.

DataAssist would be a must, Security Assist also comes immediately to mind, and perhaps eCart for actually letting your members pay for their memberships.

Thanks Tom, I agree that getting your scanner and familiarity with the scanner would be the first step as well. And DataAssist and SecurityAssist are definitely also good products to get for this kind of site. DataAssist will allow you to upload and access the information in your database and ScurityAssist would allow for you to restrict access to certain pages only when the user is logged in. As far as eCart goes, if the user wants to set up an online payment site, it would be helpful.

Site Assist Professional, CSS Form Builder, CSS Menu Writer and CSS Sculptor may help in designing the look and feel of the site.

If you are emailing the user from input forms, Universal Email would also be helpful.

Old thread here. But you guys may have the experience of using barcode readers. I am considering to create some barcode in .NET(net_barcode/) and use this .NET barcode reader SDK (net_barcode_reader/) to read the barcode. I googled for this. Anyone used this tool? How's it? Thanks.

thanks for sharing

I use a barcode scanner driver found on the internet . Install it and it becomes a selectable option. Then you can scan barcodes in many formats in any program at all, including Adobe Acrobat . Just open the sdk, select barcode, and choice a form you want, then you can scan barcode in vb,c#, sdp ,etc ,the task will be finished in several seconds. if you haven't found a good choice , you can have a try. best wishes.
