Send the content of an order in the emal

Hi there,
I have a custom MySQL cart. I want to send the data when an order is completed, through an email.
So for example, if the user buys 3 products, to send him an email with displaying products purchased, price, total cost etc.

I tried to create a file which retrieves order's details, but using the server behavior to send the email I get an error.

The question is. Which is the best practice to retrieve order details for the file that will be used for sending the order data. I tried with a session variable (to get the order id) but I get nothing back when sending the email.

Checked the forum and although I found, close to this issue, posts they weren't what I was looking for.

Thank you!!!
