Can't open file: '......' (erno:24 Too many open files)

Can't open file: '......' (erno:24 Too many open files)

I have a site running eCart that has frozen up with the above error twice now. I have increased the open files limit substantially, but still had the issue today.

I'm looking at other possibilities, but wanted to run this past you for verification.

I had a little over 120 transactions today (orders table), with 292 items (order_details table). During this time, there were also a few hundred records added to the order details table via an insert records page, and several reports being run via search and results pages.

Is there anything I need to do to ensure that database connections are being closed properly? Or is there any way I might have an issue in the site that could be causing too many files to be open?

Again, not saying WA is the culprit, just covering my bases to make sure my client isn't impacted again.

Are you on shared hosting, or do you have a dedicated server? It isn't related to database connections. It looks like an open file limit on the server itself. Have you asked your hosting provider to look into this for you? What did you increase the open files limit to? Where did you make the change? What is the open files limit currently?

I found an interesting article on this issue here:

It talks about how to update the limit and check its current value.
