Dynamic Dropdowns and MySQLi

I'm trying to use MySQLi to build a couple of Dynamic Dropdowns. I've done it numerous times before using MySQL but have hit a road block doing this using MySQLi. From what I understand (via a couple of posts on the forums) the best approach is to build it in MySQL and then convert the code to work with MySQLi. I got most of the way with that but there's a couple of bits of code that seem to be beyond my abilities, particularly the following bit of code.

Note that the system I'm building allows someone to select a club and then a team (U8, U9, U10 etc). Not all clubs have the same amount of teams, hence the need for a Dynamic Dropdown. I'm using Dreamweaver CC on a Mac with Data Bridge 2.1. I'm assuming the final version of Data Bridge 2 will have MySQLi based Dynamic Dropdowns?

-----

if ($row_teams) {
echo "<SC" . "RIPT>\n";
echo "var WAJA = new Array();\n";

$oldmainid = 0;
$newmainid = $teams->getColumnVal("teamClub");
if ($oldmainid == $newmainid) {
$oldmainid = "";
}
$n = 0;
while ($row_teams) {
if ($oldmainid != $newmainid) {
echo "WAJA[".$n."] = new Array();\n";
echo "WAJA[".$n."][0] = '".WA_DD_Replace($newmainid)."';\n";
$m = 1;
}

echo "WAJA[".$n."][".$m."] = new Array();\n";
echo "WAJA[".$n."][".$m."][0] = "."'".WA_DD_Replace($teams->getColumnVal("teamID"))."'".";\n";
echo "WAJA[".$n."][".$m."][1] = "."'".WA_DD_Replace($teams->getColumnVal("teamDivision"))."'".";\n";

$m++;
if ($oldmainid == 0) {
$oldmainid = $newmainid;
}
$oldmainid = $newmainid;
$row_teams = mysql_fetch_assoc($teams);
if ($row_teams) {
$newmainid = $teams->getColumnVal("teamClub");
}
if ($oldmainid != $newmainid) {
$n++;
}
}

echo "var teams_WAJA = WAJA;\n";
echo "WAJA = null;\n";
echo "</SC" . "RIPT>\n";
}

I'm removing the Dynamic Dropdowns extension from the MySQLi version of DataBridge. The functionality can be replicated by using Framework builder and plugins and AJAX, which will be the preferred method for adding dynamic select lists in the new version. I'll have to do a tutorial on how to get it done.

I will do a screen sharing session and show anyone how to add a MySQLi dynamic select using Framework builder and AJAX if they will agree to do a tutorial on the topic after.

I would be willing to do it... I'm trying to add it to a site now and can't do it, so show me! I'll do a tutorial on it afterward.

I had someone else take me up on it and the tutorial is just about done. He did a video tutorial and I'm having someone else take that and do a written on on top of it. I'm hoping it will be available in the next week.

Hi - Is this tutorial available yet? I have searched for it but can't find it in the tutorial library. Would it be possible to reply to this thread once it is up.

I just got the first draft of the videos for it. I'm having someone look at it and create the written tutorials to go along with it. They probably won't be ready for 2-3 weeks since I'm on vacation until December 6th. I'll update this thread with a link when they are live or maybe even before that if I get something you can provide feedback on.

Dynamic Dropdowns MySQLi

Hello Ray,
Thank you very much for addressing this. I am also going through the process of trying to add a dynamic dropdown list for a page. Please let us know when the tutorial is available.

Thank you for your support!

Ray,

What is the status on this tutorial? I'm not seeing it in the library. Did I miss it somehow?

Thanks,
TroyD

I'm still trying to get it produced. I have two different people working on a written and video version. I'll update this thread when either are ready.

Thanks Ray. I will watch for it.
But in the meantime, is there anything at all that could explain how I transition a page using the "Create Dynamic Array" to be compatible with mysqli?

I have Databridge2 now and I am working to convert pages to mysqli. I've hit a bit of a roadblock with a few pages that use this. Perhaps I should just play around with Framework on a dummy page and see what I come up with. Is that still the correct tool to use now?

Thanks
TroyD
