Surveyor does not create sitemap from remote site

Surveyor does not create sitemap from remote site

Hello,

First, well done for your DW extensions, being an extension writer myself, I know how hard it is.

I have actually two issues:

1. I can create an XML sitemap from my local site, but I cannot get it to work from a remote site. When I hit Finish, the Site Tools panel appears, but nothing moves. Even if I hit the Go button, Surveyor does not seem to start crawling my site.
Any suggestions?

2. I cannot get the help system to work (all extensions). The only workaround I found is starting with wf_njs.htm page, which gives me the non-Flash version, but this does not work for Surveyor, since the left frame does not have any menu (no links).
I have allowed Flash to communicate with wf_master.swf, but the page seems to reload to the same start screen. I have disabled NoScript, allowed popup, etc.: still nothing.
Any ideas?

Best regards,
Xavier

What is the site you are trying to create the site map for so I can test this on my end? Have you tried running surveyor on any other live sites besides the one that is causing an issue?

Try modifying your security settings to allow the Dreamweaver Configuration folder. This post explains how to do this:
showpost.php?p=7658&postcount=5

You can also access the help documents by going to www.webassist.com and clicking on support. Select Support Resources for the product you need and the online help link. This will get you to the same help document, but you will have to find which section you were on.

Thanks for your answer and sorry for being so long to get back to you.

Here's the url : www.xp-internet.com

As for the help system, the solution you provided worked perfectly.

It seems to work on my end. Did you modify any of the settings when you set up surveyor to run? Are you putting the site map into your local directory or onto the server directly? Are you able to run surveyor on any other remote sites or does the error occur for all sites?

I did not modify any of the settings, except erasing .cfm and .asp into the extensions field.

I put the sitemap into a local directory.

I have checked with another site, and it did not work either.

If you have all the files locally and want to create the sitemap for your remote site, you can use your local files to do this. If you change the site definition for your local site and in the Local Info section (using advanced view) you change the HTTP address to that of your remote server, Surveyor will create the sitemap using the address specified.

One thing you can try to get remote sites working is to check if any of your security software or antivirus software is interfering.

Surveyor not starting the crawl

Hi,

I thought I had the same problem with surveyor not starting (on Mac with DW5 - Surveyor 1.07). Actually I was just about to answer to this thread.. as suddenly the "Site Reports" panel in DW showed up for a second.
Now, after over 3 minutes, the processing started and Surveyor seems to work fine. Maybe you just have to wait for a while?

Thanks for the input. Its a possibility, but I'm glad you were able to get the surveyor working.
