CAPTCHA issue eating up disk space

This is a bit of a random one, but this afternoon our server ran out of space. After some investigation it turned out to be the /webassist/captcha/error_log file running out of control. Its apparently eating 1GB of space every second. The hosting company have set up a cronjob to empty the folder every 5 seconds, but obviously this isn't ideal.

Seems a bit of a mystery as its one of our domains that isn't really used that much.

The repeating error in the log is:

[25-Jan-2018 15:09:31 UTC] PHP Warning: imagecopy() expects parameter 2 to be resource, boolean given in /home/miradatr/public_html/webassist/captcha/wavt_captchasecurityimages.php on line 118

Does that mean anything you?

Thanks,

Are you specifying a background image for your captcha? That error implies you are and it doesn't exist. I'd have to look at the page to be sure. Can I get FTP access?

Thanks Ray. Not as far as I know, unless its the default pattern behind the characters? It hasn't been an issue until today, and nothing has really changed on the site for quite a while. It only really has some historical reports for admin people to refer to.

I'm assuming its on the register page below.

I think you must have captcha on another page and it has an image specified. I deleted the error log and refreshed the page and it didn't create a new one. That tells me that the issue is actually coming from another page.

At any rate I updated the captcha include file so that it shouldn't be a problem moving forward.

Thanks Ray - that seems to have done the trick. it may have been something I looked at years ago just to see how it worked, or looked.
