storing cart contents

I am finishing up a site for a client where anyone placing items in a cart will have logged in, so I always have a customer id available. The client would like to do two things:

1) track abandoned carts and
2) resurrect an incomplete cart when the customer logouts and logs back in.

I know that I can serialize the eCart object and store it in a database, but I'm unclear on how to use that to recreate the cart.

There are server behaviors that come with eCart for "Store Cart Details in Database" and "Get Cart Contents from Recordset". You could use those two to create the functionality you describe.
