search feature

I'd like to add a search feature to a few websites. What is everyone using these days now that Google's paid search feature is no longer an option?
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thank you.

Our Free Tools extension includes an implementation of Google's Custom Search API. That is what we use on this site.

But you're using a paid version of site search? Google has dropped that option now. All that will be available is the free version which includes ads. From what I've read, it seems the only way search w/o ads is available is for non-profits.

So I thought someone may have a recommendation for some other program or some work-around.

thank you.

I see... I wasn't aware of the news, but I do see that Custom Search will start including ads and will be free instead of paid for.

Here is a good article that describes some third party options:

Right. Most businesses won't want ads to display in their search results.

So I go back to my original question - what are the alternatives. I want something that is easy to install, gives good results and doesn't include ads.
Any such animal out there?

Did you follow the link I provided? It has a handful of alternatives listed at the bottom.

Yes - I had seen that article earlier. That and other similar articles is what prompted me to post here to see if I could get any input from others. While I haven't dug into anything too much, what I've seen is either expensive or confusing and a pain.

I was hoping someone had found a better solution to anything I was seeing.

Thank you.
