ignore password update page field empty

Ignore password update page if post field is empty

A recall that we did in dataassist was that on a user update page if they typed a new password it would get updated but if we left the password post field empty it would just keep the one stored in the database

I tried this method from when we used Datassist

<?php echo ((($_POST["UserPassword"] != ""))?WA_MD5Encryption($_POST["UserPassword"]):$row_WADAusers["UserPassword"]); ?>

So it looks like this

<?php echo  ((($_POST["UserPassword"] != ""))?WA_MD5Encryption($_POST["UserPassword"]):$updateuser->getColumnVal("UserPassword")); ?>

But this way I get the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ' ' (T_STRING) in ............

How can I get this to work without using a hidden field for the password?

This code looks correct. Perhaps the problem is with the order of the code on the page? Is this below the updateuser recordset? Does the error give a line number? Can I get a copy of that page?

If you still need help I'd need a copy of the page and the exact error including line numbers to debug.
