Checkout.php error because of missing gateway file—but I don't want to use a gateway. Will send to PayPal at the end.

The older site is currently using PayPal Standard. I will set it up with Express Checkout at the end but I can't make checkout.php work.... What can I do?

The only options are PayPal Pro, PayFlow and PayPal Advanced.

Paypal Express should be an option in the wizard. The gateway file reference can be deleted from the page if you aren't using a gateway.

PayPal Express is not one of the 3 main options but a suboption of 2 of the paid PayPal options.

I can only select PayPal Express IF I select one of the first 2 PayPal options : Pro or PayFlow (which is ONLY a gateway). But if I select either, I need to enter in all the information of a PayPal account which I don't have access to. I just have the account business email address which is all I need to send the payment.

Here are 2 screen shots.

Paypal has two basic genres of payments. Payments Pro, which is the one that deposits money into your paypal account and then you transfer it into your bank, and PayFlow Pro, which deposits directly into your bank account and requires you to get a merchant account separately.

If you use Payments Pro with Express Checkout Only it is free and you can get those credentials from your paypal account. You can log into your paypal account and get those credentials.

OK.. I'm sorry to be so dense about all this... here's what has happened so for :

To start, we are selling some hard copy books and some ebooks.

At first, I tried setting up the checkout with our SSL, and then sending to PayPal after order details have been collected. This worked BUT it opened first with the option of credit card — and even though we have an SSL (largely to collect customer info and not credit card info) — and I want it to go to PayPal and not ask for credit card info on our site.

Then I tried setting up without SSL and now it goes directly to PayPal on checkout, which is great except for when we sell hard copy books that need shipping.

I want customers to save their orders and login and then be able to download the digital file they've purchased.

Knowing now what I'm trying to do, can you suggest a way through this confusion?

Thanks very much for your help,
George

I just tried the non-SSL version and it went through fine, however, even though i said i wanted to save the order details, it didn't do so.

I'd have to see the confirm.php and/or pp_confirm.php pages to see where it is supposed to save the order information. Try going to the orders and order details tables and allow null for all the columns (other than the first one). Sometimes the order isn't saved because of a blank value in a column that doesn't allow null.

Apart from the actual cart contents, it never asks for the person's name and address etc... so that wouldn't be saved anyway. It goes straight to PayPal.

Plus I grabbed the sql template from this site... and NULL was no for all the tables. I set it to allow NULL now but we still need to save the customer info and that never comes up.

Paypal will pass the shipping information back to your site so it can be saved in your database. You don't have to get it beforehand.

So just make an order again and see what happens?

Also, how can I tie this in to a specific login for digital downloads? Or how can I sent a download link if I can't have the customer save login info?

Thanks for your help, Ray!

Oh.. more thing.. does this info get returned from PayPal whether the customer logs in or just pays with credit card without logging in to their PP account?
