strange characters in db

strange characters in db

Hi, is there a way to preserve special characters so that they get stored correctly in the db instead of turning into these groups of "???" q-marks (see attachment)? I can identify in this example that apostrophes (not foot marks), quote marks (not inch marks), ellipses (...) and em dashes are currently getting garbled.

My client is likely pasting content from mixed sources such as MS Outlook and/or MS Word - I know, I know.

The character set on the form page is set as such: <meta charset="utf-8">.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: I figured this one out! Apparently, my db table collation was set to ascii_general_ci. I switched all fields to utf8_general_ci and everything looks right now.
