International Shipping with eCart 6 and PayPal Express Checkout

I am trying to set up eCart to handle free shipping in the USA, but $1.00 per item for international orders. When a buyer reaches the checkout page, fills in the shipping address and clicks the 'Continue' button, they are taken directly to PayPal. There is no calculation of shipping done, no confirmation page showing shipping tax, etc. My question is: how does PayPal Express know to calculate shipping for international orders? Shouldn't that be done in eCart before the transaction is handed over to PayPal?

Please help, thank you.

Shipping calculations are done on that page via AJAX before sending it to paypal. You should just have to set up the appropriate shipping rule in your cart object and the shipping will be charged.

I'd just save the shipping country into a session variable on the confirm_cart.php page and then use that to set up a shipping rule in the cart object and that should take care of it.

Ray, finally updating my checkout process with eCart6 and am not sure where in the workflow to put the shipping options selection that you helped me create sometime ago. At that time, we added a shipping selection drop down (Free Pickup, Local Delivery, Flat Rate CA or US) on the checkout.php below the Billing and Shipping details (attached) ... would I still add that in the same spot with the eCart6 flow? We added a check on the confirm.php to alert if selection didn't match country selection ... would that also remain above confirm.php in the new flow?

I intend on setting up a time with you to customize a few feature on my new site, but I am hoping to solve these ones myself. As always, your advice is greatly appreciated :)

I'm not positive, but I think you can add the shipping selection in the shipping form anywhere you want... probably at the end.

Then you would actually update the confirm_cart.php page to add the validation to make sure it is selected before moving onto the payment instead of the confirm.php page where it was before.
