powergallery should be able to support any version before 7, but possibly not 7 if no mysql support is added. The mysql version shouldn't matter. We will be updating the code base for php 7 in a free update.
My power gallery was working fine until recently. It seems my web host (BlueHost) updated PHP to v7. Is there a PHP 7 compatible version of power gallery code available?
I'm afraid I don't have a php7 version available at this time. you will have to move to a version previous to php 7. Any 4,5, or 6 version would work:
Bluehost documentation says you can change your PHP version by following these steps:
Log in to your Bluehost account.
Under Programming click PHP Config.
Select the version of PHP you're interested in using.
Click Save Change.
Hi Ray,
I've changed the version of PHP to 5.6 and verified it. I'm still having trouble. What else might have changed that would cause Powergallery to stop working?
Nothing. What is the current error? If you give me a URL to reproduce and FTP access then I can help debug it.
I'll need a URL and FTP access to look into this for you.
see private message below. Powergallery had been working up until a few months ago when it mysteriously stopped working. I had made no changes, so I suspect it's something Bluehost did upgrading PHP or MySQL. I've used the Bluehost control panel to force PHP v5.6 everywhere, but still doesn't work. Any help appreciated.
The database connection information appears incorrect. Your best option is to open the file:
/admin_gallery/Connections/powergallery.php
Look at the connection information in that file and try to find what is wrong. It could be the database server, username, or password.
Very interesting. The file contained access information for a database at a web host that I changed from many years ago. Somehow, that database must have been accessible even after I terminated the account, and the file containing the access info was moved to the new host. The old hosting service must have discovered this and disabled the database. I don't have a backup of the database. How do I set up a new one? Do I just delete the file: /admin_gallery/Connections/powergallery.php and let it create a new one or is there more to it? I guess I need to go through the setup wizard again and start from scratch. But how?
