Set session variable from a link?

Is it possible to set a session variable from a link?

I have an application that Im building which has a series of links that could be clicked. Each link would be unique.

I would like a value to be carried from this page, to a results page and then on to a details page where the value can be submitted.

I do not want to use a url variable if possible.

Is it possible to set a session variable from a link rather than a button?

You would have to start with a URL variable on the link, but then you could move the url variable to a session variable at that point to carry throughout the rest of the process.
