encrypt data/Crypt/salt

encrypt data/Crypt/salt

I want to add encryption to my password field using crypt/salt. I need to encrypt the current data as the passwords are not encrypted yet.

I've got a few questions regarding this:

1. how can I encrypt uncrypted data (password field) in mysql for cyrpt?

2. Can these passwords, when encrypted like this, being decrypted with WA crypt/salt?

3. how long has this salt string to be? would 32 signs be ok, like this:

$WA_SECURITY_KEY = "2d66aed7a5328a988f77cbaec59fc047";

? Thanks for any help

1) there should be encrypt and decrypt functions available from the bindings or could be referenced manually by examining the included library files.
2) Yes, salted encryption will have a decryption option
3) I don't think there is a minimum length for most encryption types... the length you suggest seems reasonable.

Hi Ray

1) Looks like

UPDATE `users` SET `password` = ENCRYPT(`password`, "2d66aed7a5328a988f77cbaec59fc047");

encodes the passwords and works with decoding too.
