SELECT LEFT(colName, number) not returning any results

SELECT LEFT(colName, number) not returning any results

Hi Ray and Jason:

I've been using "SELECT LEFT(colName, number)" in a query for many years to return a limited number of characters from the field "colName" in the database. This works successfully in MySQL. Today using the MySQLi Recordset Server Behavior, I manually added the "LEFT(" ... and " number)," around my jobDescription column name in the query. When I tested it everything worked fine, but when I preview the page either in Dreamweaver's Live view or in my browsers, the jobDescription data is not displayed. No syntax errors are thrown, so I'm thinking there's something different in MySQLi that I need to use to restrict my displayed content to a limited number of characters. Should I do that in PHP or is there a workaround in the query?

Thanks as always!

you said the following in a private message:
I figured it out. I added " AS pageDesc," after the "LEFT(colName, number)" and used the pageDesc binding. Somehow not using the AS pageDesc worked in MySQL.

If you are able to figure out a problem on your own, it is best to add that info as a public message rather than private.
