An unidentified error has occured - Dynamic MySQLi Connection

I'm trying to get my site connected to my remote MySQL database but when I run the Dynamic MySQLi Connection wizard, enter my MySQL server information and click "Test" it responds with a pop-up dialog box stating:

"An unidentified error has occured"

FTP details and MYSQL database connection information provided privately below. Thank you.

This is an issue with the Testing Server settings in the Site Definition.

Where you are trying to connect tot he remote MySQL server, set the testing server to use FTP.

And if the ftp connection is made to a folder under the site files root, make sure to enter the correct root directory, for example it may be:
/public_html

on testing the FTP info you sent in file zilla, it says:
"Please note: files for your website must be stored under the htdocs directory."

so it looks like the root directory in your case should be:
/htdocs

Also make sure the URL Prefix is entered correctly.

Ok, let's start again on this...I've provided new FTP and MySQL information below. I'm now receiving the error:

MySQL Error#: 2002
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

My testing site is within the directory called "newsite".

Hope you can help, thank you.

the error suggests that the MySQL host, user, password, database combination that you are using is not correct. most likely the host name since the target server is actively refusing the connection. If you are sure the settings are correct, you should contact the host.

Thing is, the website itself still connects with those details it's only Dreamweaver that's throwing the error. The website is:
www.jb-graham.co.uk/newsite/index.php

I'm not able to reproduce.

Using the FTP settings you sent for the both the remote and testing server in a DW site, I can connect t the database without an error

The username was the issue. Read, re-read and then read again...sorry Jason!

So, my next issue with this is that I want to connect to a new MySQL database which is hosted elsewhere (in preparation for moving the website to our servers). I have provided the connection details for that below.

When I try and create the MySQLi Connection for it, I get the following error:

"A server timeout has occured . Here are the possible reasons.
1. Please make sure that the web server is up and running.
2. Please verify that the ODBC DSN exists on the testing server."

I should be able to connect to an external database, shouldn't I?
Thank you.
