making form data new table

does anyone know how to take a from record and make it into a new table when the user hits submit. I want each persons username to become a new table in my database as they sign up so all their stuff can be put there (upload pics, video)

It is highly unusual to create new tables for users like you are describing. Most of the time you will just be adding records to a user's table to record the details for your users. In PHP though you can execute just about any sql using the mysql_query() function. Here is an example of some code that would create a new table called demo:

php:
<?php

mysql_select_db
($database_test$test);
$query_newtable1 "CREATE TABLE `demo` (
  `demoid` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `demouname` varchar(255) NOT NULL,
  `demopword` varchar(255) NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY  (`demoid`)
)"
;
$Recordset1 mysql_query($query_newtable1$test) or die(mysql_error());
?>

This code is utilizing a Dreamweaver connection named test. When the code executes it will take the variable that holds the sql and execute it, if there are problems with the execution the 'or die()' part would be triggered and give you an error from the MySQL server.

thanks, im doing it this way b/c i couldnt really think of any other way to organize the data since im kinda new to php and such. How would you suggest organizing uploads so that they are searchable and i know who uplaoded what?

Probably the easiest way to record the upload info like this would be to ensure that the user is logged in when uploading. You can then just record whatever user identifier you have stored in the session in your uploads table.

This way you can have a single table for uploads and another for users. In the upload table you will need to make sure you have a column for the userID. Then when you perform your insert into the upload table to record the details of the file you will also record the userID so you can search based on the user if you would like.

This relies on having the login in place and making sure that you are storing the userID in a session variable when the user logs in. This functionality is built into Security Assist in the Authenticate user server behavior.
