£ sign being changed on the live page

Hey Jason

On this live article pagehttp://bit.ly/1osfCpL, the £ sign is being rendered with £ both in the title area as well as the actual srticle content itself.

In the backend, the title is added using a text field whilst the article content is added using an html editor but both are causing this issue but have checked the unicode signature of the ckeditor.js nonetheless and it is checked. In the backend _results and _update pages the £ is being shown as it should be.

thanks for any pointers.....

Jamie

looks like you are using a MySQLi connection to return the news article.

edit the MySQLi, and set the character set to UTF-8

thanks for taking a look....the character is set to utf-8 (on line 60) - do I need to do it specifically with the RS as well? if so, how do I do that? have done a quick search and not turned anything up....

I asked ray to have a look at this. He fixed it by updating the Connections/DBConnection.php and removing the line to set the character set to UTF 8.

It looks like your database table is not set to use UTF 8 encoding, so setting the character set in the connection to UTF 8 is causing the problem.

if the table does not use UTF 8 encoding, you cant use UTF 8 as the character set for the connection.

thanks to you both - how would i go about making a table UTF 8 'friendly'?

Also, not sure what has been done but 2 things are now a problem on the site that werent there before:

1. homepage slideshow image resizer is throwing up errors
2. more importantly, the navigation point 'cleaning products' should not be visible. In the back end if there are no entries or all entries in the cleaning products section are set to 'invisible' then the front end shouldnt show the navigation point... could you let me know what has been changed to stop this from working so I can go back in and fix please

cheers

jamie

you would need to edit the table in the database and set the encoding to use UTF 8

1) the if statement for hiding the image if there is no file name was in the wrong lace, i updated that to correct the problem

2) Ray updated the recordset object to fix the no rows problem
