Remember my information / log me in automatically functionality

Remember my information / log me in automatically functionality

Can I just check how this is supposed to work?

The site owner of a site reported this morning that if they ticked log me in automatically, it worked until they went to a page where there is a log in form, at which point they seemed to be logged out.

In trying to replicate the issue here, I ticked both boxes, and find that if I log in, and then click on log out in the bottom left it looks as though I have logged out. But if I go to a page with a log in form, it changes to showing me as logged in again. Which I guess is doing what I asked.

However, in the bottom left it says 'You are currently logged in as... followed by the email address of the user.

But doing the above the email address doesn't display until the page is refreshed.

Difficult to explain, but if someone could have a look and let me know if its working as intended or not that would be good.

The remember and auto login are working as intended, when you logout, it just logs you out it does not reset the auto login option, for that you would need to clear the cookies that are set, for the email not displaying,

I'll need to troubleshoot directly, see the private message section.

Thanks Jason - if its working as intended it may not need anything changing.

I just tried to replicate the issue reported to me, and seemed to find the opposite was true - i.e. I couldn't log out even if I tried. Even after closing and re-opening the browser.

If you could have a little look and confirm that everything is behaving correctly that would be good though.

The behaviors reported to me was ticking the log in automatically box, but apparently having to log in again on one of the lodge pages with the login form, e.g.:

Presumably after visiting a few other pages.

Details below.

I see, i misunderstood the original question, you say:
"I couldn't log out even if I tried."

That is the way auto login is supposed to work when you go to the login page, it automatically logs you in and goes to the success page.

for your client where the auto login does not appear to work, most likely, they have a browser setting in place that is preventing cookies from being set. The Auto login relies on cookies to save the selection and the username / password and perform the login.

as for the email not showing up: on your login pages, there are 2 behaviors for the Security Assist Authenticate user, one that is used when the login form is submitted, and the other is used for auto login.

in the first, you have the success and failure redirects set, but in the second, there are no success and failure urls, success and failure for the second behavior should be the same as for the first.

Thanks Jason.

One thing though - having selected 'log me in automatically' is there a way of clearing that so that I need to log in again?

Handy for testing purposes!

I've tried restarting safari and clearing the history etc.

Thanks Jason - that's surprisingly well buried in Safari these days.

Safari > Preferences > Privacy.

Good old Apple!
