"Forgot password" feature

"Forgot password" feature

I would like to add a "forgot password?" feature to my login pages. I have already built working user login and admin login pages using your MySQLi extension, so I'd like to simply add this feature to those pages. I need for the 'forgot password' back end to email the user a reset link so they can reset their password themselves if forgotten. Am I correct in assuming that DataBridge is the extension I need?

You can use the Data Bridge Create Email Message behavior to send the link, but you will need to do some hand coding for the reset password portion.

Do any of your extensions do this? If not, can you point me in the right direction?

Not using MySQLi at this time. we are currently in the process of upgrading Data Bridge to use the MySQLi library, when that is completed, you will be able to use security assist for creating user registration using MySQLi, at this time though it only supports the MySQL library.

creating the reset password page will take some hand coding to accomplish using MySQLi. your link would need to pass the UserID, email address and a random string as URL variables, when the request the forgot password email, you need an update behavior to save the random string to the users table

on the reset password page, you would create a recordset to lookup the userID, email and random string URL variables to verify the user record to update, and show the update password form.

if you need help in configuring this, we can help through a premiere support appointment:

Could this be accomplished using your MySQLi extension plus the hand coding you talk about? In other words I wouldn't have to buy Data Bridge, just pay for a premium support session? I have no use for the user registration feature (only members get to log in to our site and that's strictly controlled by the admins). So I'm just looking for a reset password link, and possibly some security question feature so that not just anyone could reset someone's password if they know their email address. Let me know--Gail

You would need data Bridge for the Universal Email tool to send the email, it also contains a captcha tool, plus the premiere support session to set up the custom coding.

I got lucky enough to notice your sale on Data Bridge, so I purchased it. Now I need to move on creating a working 'forgot password' feature on my client's web site. I was looking through the tutorials for DB and I didn't see one that specifically addressed this. As I said previously, I already have a working login page using your MySQLi extension. I need to build the reset password page now. It sounds like from rereading your above response, that now we need to have a premium support session to get this done. Correct? If so, let's schedule it.
