Deprecated connections in 5.5 and WA?

Hi folks, for a project I downloaded DMXzone's html 5 data bindings. In the process of discovering how different it is from classic php, I was pointed to an article about the fact that php5.5 will deprecate a lot of the connection methods of early versions. I am wondering if/how these changes will affect the WA suite of products ... from ecart to dataassist?
I have a few clients will not be happy when their servers upgrade to 5.5 and they stop working. I want to develop now for the future on all sites.

We will be moving to MySQLi.

We are currently working on a MySLQi extensions that creates duplicates the existing DW Server behaviors for Recordsets an basic insert / update / delete behaviors that uses MySQLi.

after that project is complete we will be working on upgrades to our products to move from using the deprecated MySQL library to using the MySQLi library.

Most hosts will have an option to allow you to continue using previous PHP versions to support older code instead of forcing you to use the newest version
