Best way to back up PowerGallery

I have added a number of pictures and galleries since I first added PowerGallery to my website a few years ago. I'm wondering about the best way to back it all up. Currently I have the original PG in a subdirectory of my website, located on my PC. Can I just ftp all the files in the PG folder on the hosting server back into the folder on my PC, overwriting any duplicates, or would you recommend I create a separate folder on my PC for the files on the hosting server? My goal would be that if my hosting server crashed and lost the files, I could just upload this backup folder and be up and running again.

Thanks.

I would create a separate folder each time you back up using the date as the folder name

and save the files from the host into that directory.

also, do an export of the mySQL database.
