Is weight and shipping/handling mutually exclusive?

Is weight and shipping/handling mutually exclusive?

I believe an item sold in our cart that had a 0 weight assigned to the item and the result was that a shipping/handling charge was added to the sale but no shipping was added. Can I have both a positive weight value in the weight field that a shipping amount is calculated from and have an additional shipping/handling charge on cart items? If so, will both be line item listed on the order receipt as shipping and shipping/handling?

regardless of the weight of the item, if you set a shipping charge at the item level it will be applied.

any shipping rules you apply in the Settings -> Shipping section will only apply to items that have a weight though.

great.....so I can have both shipping/handling and a shipping charge applied based upon the shipping rules I have in place. In this one case, I think the weight was inadvertently not set at all instead of a valid assigned weight. And, then only an assigned shipping/handling charge was added to the item cost. (human error)

Thanks again....
