eCart 6 upgrade

Should I be excited?
How will updating to eCart 6 affect my current shopping cart made with eCart5. Specifically checkout information and UE . I have Data Bridge and Design Extender.
Thanks,
David B

it will have no effect on your current sites.

if you wish to upgrade a current site, to use the new features of the cart Display and checkout, inspect the eCart object to have it recreated, delete the cart display and checkout pages, then recreate them using the Display manager and Checkout wizard.

Happy New Year and thanks for your reply.
I am nervous/close to paranoid about changing my checkout as I have customised local pick up no shipping charges as well as email details using UE to myself and the customer. I have also customised the look of the checkout and cart pages.
Do I need to recreate the customisation for these pages?
How does eCart 6 affect creating a new "Add to Cart" item?
How does eCart 6 affect eCart Object file? Are there more or different features here?

if you have customized the checkout with custom code, i would not use eCart 6 to edit it.

create a new user on your computer and install eCart 5 under the new user

use that account for managing the old sites with eCart 5.

I don't want to create a new user as my entire user setup would need to be changed.
Would it be better to create a new site from the existing web site and apply eCart6 to this new site as a test and test with my testing server MAMP?
I am always wanting to upgrade but I know from experience that there are usually many hidden pitfalls.
Prior to updating to eCart 6 I want to update Ecart 5, I have Data Bridge and Design Extender, which order do I re-install the extensions for best results

Yes, creating a test site would be best.

really you only need to recreate the checkout pages if you want to use the new features of the checkout wizard.

other than that, just inspect the eCart object to recreate it

nothing is really different in the add to cart button behavior.

eCart 5 should be installed first, then design extender and data bridge

Using DWCC, Mac OS10.9 Mavericks.
I have just updated the extensions in the order required, however when I try to activate i put in the serial number, get a green check confirming the number but get an activation error and it won't activate the extension.
I cannot get to the record sets, data base or bindings. I have tried Adobe extension for this but nothing works properly.
To Further confound everything all other extensions, i.e. CSS menu builder, forms and UEmail item do not work. I cannot access them to activate them.
I have created a new config file, re-installed all the extensions. Nothing works.
I Google'd the problem only to find a host of other issues regarding database binding with mysqli.
I noticed that WebAssisit will not be upgrading to adobe's (PDO) What ever that is.
Can I still use the WebAssist extensions in the future and how will I address creating record sets and binding information to use the eCart
Starting 2014 off with WT.. is going to happen...Just when I thought I knew what I was doing sort of.
BTWay all work ok in DWCS6
