you can do this using Power CMS templates, in this tutorial, we talk about using Power CMS For a Blog, the same concept can be used for yopur sermons:

There is a video tutorial here:

Thanks Jason for the quick reply. I've watched the tutorial which is detailed and easy explanation and I was able to achieve it under 20 minutes. Thanks always and do have a good Christmas.

Hi Jason, I have my sermon note on the home page, is it possible i restrict the content to display 200 word? instead of showing the whole content on home page and user can click continue reading which will lead them to the detail page. thanks

add a link around the content to link it to the page that shows the full sermon, and add a 7th parameter to the WA_getCMSContent code to set the max length to 200

<a href="sermonpage.php">
<?php echo WA_getCMSContent($database_PowerCMSConnection, $PowerCMSConnection, 'BlogPosts', 'BlogPostTitle',false, '', $row_BlogRS['ContentPageSetOrder'], 200); ?>
</a>

Are you using the latest version of Design Extender?

make sure you have Design Extender 1.1.7 installed, if the CMS was created with an earlier version, it will need to be updated:

No am using previous version not design extenders. mine is PowerCMS Builder Current version: 1.0.1. What should I do since there is this on the update page *Note: Only users with Design Extender should follow these upgrade steps. Users who purchased the PowerCMS Solution Pack, should not follow this tutorial.

That feature doesn't exist in that version of Power CMS then.

instead of trying to limit the character count, create 2 content areas, one for the sermon excerpt and one for the entire sermon

show the excerpt content are on the home page and link to the page that shows the entire sermon.
