Universal email not sending

I am puzzled why Universal Email 4 fails to send an email submitted by a simple contact form (see attached). I tried "any form post", "current page submit", "button pressed" and none has worked. The smtp setting is correct and all addresses are valid.

Can you advise what's the issue?

Who is your host?

Depending on your host, you may need to set certain options in Universal Email.

Some hosts will work if you leave the SMTP Server setting on the Email Server Tab blank, others will require that you enter the SMTP server address.

Some will work using the standard Mail protocol, other will require that you use the Pear Mail for SMTP, some using Pear mail will require authentication.

Some hosts may require that the from address being used be a valid email address for your domain. Some may require that the option to include the from Email address be passed as an extra parameter.

To be successful with Universal Email, you will need to know the requirements of your host for sending an email using a PHP script.

Also, double check your Spam folder, it is possible that the email is being trapped as spam.


To troubleshoot if the email is being sent to the SMTP server, add the following code just before the </body> tag<

<?php @session_start(); var_dump($_SESSION); ?>

this will write the session contents to the page and include the status of sending the email to the SMTP server.

The second thing I find strange is that despite defining the text field id="txt_email" and name="txt_email", it doesn't show up in the "Select Data Binding" for me to insert in UE (see contactform.php). This happens to other WA tools like DataAssist whereby both my txt_email and txt_tel in other webpages never show up in the "Select Data Binding" list.

change the type from email to text:
<input type="email" name="txt_email" id="txt_email">

to:
<input type="text" name="txt_email" id="txt_email">

It works. But that will not allow me to use HTML5 validation for email and tel, isn't it?

By the way, UE could not create the Log Table in the database at all (see attached). I click the "Finish" button but it's unresponsive. Only way out of the dialog box is to click "Cancel". Any idea why?

you can change it back after the wizard is configured.

how about the Log Table creation? It failed.

Where is that initialisation string for Line 1 again (the one that sets the From address)? It was here awhile ago?

I cant reproduce. If you click the define button edit the connection and test it, does that work? try setting the connection to none the reselecting it?

What version of Dreamweaver?

What OS?

What extensions are installed, including version numbers?

Have you tried uninstalling Data Bridge and reinstalling it?

I dont follow what you mean. The from address is set on the first screen of the Universal Email wizard.

initialization string for line 1? i don't follow.

I am using Mac OS X 10.9 and DW CC.

Kindly ignore the initialization string matter. I copied it from your reply to another posting regarding UE.
