Unable to connect to database

Unable to connect to database

I'm setting up PowerCMS and would like to confirm what I should be using for the Connection name. Is this an arbitrary entry or should it be "PowerCMSConnection", as shown in your help files? I've confirmed all my credentials with my host company, GoDaddy, but when I test the connection I get this error, "An unidentified error has occurred." Obviously, it gives me no clues as to what the error is. I've reviewed Dreamweaver's help and still no luck. I'm using DW CC.

Double check the site settings, specifically the Testing server settings.

Since you are trying to connect to the remote mysql server on go daddy, make sure the testing server is set to use FTP and to connect to your go daddy server and the URL entered is correct.

Unable to connect to database

Also I am unable to connect to the database on my domain. To the extend that - after a full day of trying - I get now the message that I am blocked because of too many connection errors....
The problem seems Dreamweaver cc, where 'server behaviors are deprecated' (result: 'database' is nowhere in the menu) and I had to install an extension to at least see the possibility to define a connection with a database. Next problem: this extension seems not to copy certain files into my rootfolder.
Well, after a full day of trial and errors I am now getting annoyed.

Would really be nice if anywhere on your site these specific problems with Dreamweaver cc could be found, preferably with a solution.
I will try again tomorrow, but what if all still will not be working. So much time lost! I hope not the loss of money.

Yes, for dynamic Data Development, the Deprecated Server Behaviors extension needs to be installed.

This isnt so much a requirement for Data Bridge or Design Extender as it is for doing any sort of Dynamic development.

what extensions do you have installed?

Make sure you have the latest version of Design Extender and Data Bridge.

I sugest installing in this order:

eCart 5.0.7
free Tools 1.0.5
Design Extender 1.1.5
Data Bridge 1.1.4

the keys to making a database connection are to properly define the testing server in your site definition.

On your host, log into the MySQL Database using phpMyAdmin, make note of the host name that is listed in the upper left corner, use that as the host name in your DB connection, and the user name and password combination you set up in the sites control panel.

If you getting errors about being locked out, I would suggest contacting the host for assistance.

I am finally able to work on my issue again of not being able to connect my database to Power CMS. My website is hosted by GoDaddy and through extensive research, their tech support has determined there is a permission issue with Power CMS. They gave me the following results of their investigation and I'm hoping you can help me. If not, I won't be able to use the Power CMS extension that I've paid for. I have a number of websites I want to use the extension on.

This is a valid block, the customer is trying to use POST arguments to build a mysql query. The customer should be encouraged to use a configuration file (the option appears to exist in reading the code) or work with the software developer to update their code to use secure best practices.

Bad code:
$link = @mysql_connect($_POST['server'], $_POST['username'], $_POST['password']);

Some code that points to a conf file (we have no idea on the syntax of the file, customer will need to work with dev to build it):

//db already with an incomplete previous installation attempt
if(file_exists('../Connections/PowerCMSConnection.php')) {
include('../Connections/PowerCMSConnection.php');

Here is an updated copy of the install_cms/database.php file that should correct the problem

WOW!! That seems to work!!! Thanks Jason. I'm now into the Power CMS Admin area.

I really really appreciate your prompt response. Maybe I'll meet my deadline to meet with my client on Friday.

I have another issue I need your help with. I've set up a user but while in the Admin panel, I click on the green plus button to add a page but it doesn't responds. I've tried it in several browsers and two different computers. Do you have any idea?

Only the super admin can add new content areas, a standard admin user is not allowed to add new content.
