How to create a navigation system like TED

Hi,
I am trying to create a page similar to here : http://ed.ted.com/lessons where user clicks on the left hand nav (eg All or Science & Tech etc) and the right hand side populates with the required image. I am fairly sure that databridge might be able to do this but I have no clue as to the direction that I might go in to find the answer. Can anyone help or give a prod in the right direction for video training etc?

There are a few ways to go about this.

the simplest would be to use Data Bridge to create a Search results page, set the search up to search for categories

use an example search as a starting place for creating the links you will need, you will notice when you do a search, it will create URL variables to pass the category yo u searched form and a trigger variable to the results page, similar to this:

results.php?Category=Lectures&Search=Search

for your menu, create a recordset to return the categories, then use a repeat region to write the categories to the page and inlcude links that pass the category similar to the example.

Hi, I'm in the preliminary mapping out stages of creating a database table for above in PHPmyadmin.
I have 7 categories and the first one (category 1) is a category that I want to use to show ALL products, but I'm not sure whether I have to create a table entry for both the product category number AND the "all" category number (ie 1). This is what I have so far (attached):

Is this the right way to set up the table (i realise i have to do it properly in phpmyadmin -it's just the table setup i'm concerned about) or do I just need one course name with its own category (eg 2 Home Study Environment) and let the search pull all categories to create an "all" result?

Thanks

the ALL Category would be a static menu item not created from the database.

in the menu, you would create the static All category menu item and leave the URL variable blank in the link, for example:
results.php?Category=&Search=Search

then you would add the dynamic menu after it.

Hi Jason,

I'm getting there, but I've hit a bit of a snag and need help with a couple of things. Firstly, i've managed to use databridge search for the search part of it and can now show the images on the results page. However, i still can't work out how to link the search request with the link above the search request (the navigation side of it) as per here : http://youtapping.net/inside/Search.php (ALL, HOME, SCHOOL, STUDY etc) and then get rid of the category drop down and submit button as it will then be superfluous.

Also, i'd like to be able to show both the search and results page all in one page (on the index page) or at least make it look neat and tidy like it does in ED.TED ( http://ed.ted.com/lessons )

Hoping you can give some direction if possible because I've tried everything I can think of. I have included the two search/results pages attached.
Thanks much!
