Restore a cart from database if session has timed out

Hi there

I have a site built with eCart 5 and some customers have been interrupted while filling their cart and when they've returned the session has expired and their cart is empty again. Is there a simple fix?

Alternatively, if I store the cart into a temporary table (add 'store in database' to the cart page), what is the best way to restore it later if needed? Basically, populate the live cart from data in the temporary table.

the simplest fix would be to extend the session time out:

as for the idea of storing the cart in a database, you would need for your users to login first for this idea to work.

The user would need to login so that you know the users ID, you need to know the users ID so that when the cart is stored, it is stored for that specific user, you can then create a recordset to return the items in the cart by the user ID and use the populate cart from recordset behavior.

extending the time out is much simpler way to fix this.

Excellent. Thanks for the speedy reply. I will certainly extend the timeout so will try that now.

The site actually doesn't allow the viewing of products without being logged in (it's a trade site so only trade customers can access and order) so knowing the ID isn't a problem. I must admit I'd completely overlooked the populate cart from recordset behaviour. I reckon that should sort it all nicely.
