DATABASES

Firstly I hope I am in the right area. Secondly I am a self taught webmaster now wanting to understand and utilise databases. I have an excel spreadsheet with but 4 columns of information one of which is surnames. I would like to be able to extract a given line of information and display it on one of my webpages. To give you an example of the information the four colums would be filled with info such as SMITH - BW - P1 - 856. The colums are surname, initials, area location and paver location. Is the Data Assist software the type of software that I would use to do this? If not it would be appreciated if you could point me in the right direction. Note I have no experience in databases.

The information is currently displayed across a number of webpages and one of them can be seen at:http://artilleryhistory.org/paver_location/paver_location_b.html

Ultimately I would like to be able to simply upload an excel spreadsheet on a monthly basis from which the information is searched for based on a surname then the end result being the display of the following information: Surname, Initials, Block, Row.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Hampo

An Excel Spread Sheet is not a database.

We do not have any extensions for showing Data from an Excel Spread sheet on your page.

We support the MySQL Database, you could convert your Spreadsheet to a MySQL database, and use that to display the info on your site.

See the following tutorial for details on getting started with mySQL.
