Collect more information in cart

New pending project:
Scenario: Event reservations on line. Need to add more fields so multiple names, emails can be collected besides just the purchaser.

Assumption: add more fields into "user" database, ie, name2, name3, etc. and then add more fields into the check out area? Eventually the users will be exported from sql to xls to create name badges.

Is this possible?

no, I wouldn't add more fields to the users table.

I would have the purchaser add each registration. as a seperate registration.

use a session variable to track the number of users that they enter, and use that as the quantity in the add to cart button.

I would also store the IDs of the users entered in a session, then at checkout, use an update to update each users record with the orderID to link them to the order.

Over my head. Would a premier ticket cover this if the project comes through?

New project pending. Not the same as last question but similar. This client wants to be able to block out dates/time before check out.

For instance: a physical location has space available to rent. Time is rented per unit in one hour increments during a 3 hour window. So pending client wants to have his customers pick a time that is available and book an hour. So the time slot has to be not yet booked. So if that hour on that day is not available, it can't be booked.

(Sounds like a hooker motel... :-) But not. Legit business.

Other thoughts: Maybe develop some modules to add to ecart that can be purchased separately that deals with these kind of scenarios. Just an idea.

Yes, this could be done in a premiere support appointment.

This really isn't the sort of thing that could be done in a module add on, the cart object itself would need to be updated to accommodate for this, and much of the logic depends on the gateway being used.

It sounds simple to create eCart modules, but the reality is anything but.
