How to setup Server Vaildation for existing username and email?

I'm trying to do a server validation for both username and email to confirm if it exist in the database, but it not working. I'm using "Unique Database value" but I'm not sure if the settings are correct.

For example:

Unique column: "username"
Key column: "userID"
keyvalue:0

Your wording sounds like you want to pass validation if the User name and password do exist in the database. Is this correct? Or are you trying to ensure that the username and password do not exist already?

I want to pre-check if username and email exists in the database before it's added. if the username or email exists then the user is prompted to pick a different username or with email they would be prompted to go to the forgot password page.

there are a few problems on this page

1) The key value should be left blank for an insert

2) You are adding multiple instances of the Server Validation server behavior. You should have only once instance of the server validation server behavior. in that one instance, you can define the validations for each form element.

3) The code for the server validation server behavior is being added after the insert, it should be before the insert.

the Unique Database is asking for a value and just to confirm:

the Unique column should be username and the key column should be userID

it now seems to be working I fudge it by putting in a blank space (space bar)
