prepopulate dropdown menus?

I have this already in use on an order page.
the parent menu has TYPES and the target menu has COLORS.

My client wants to have some conditions (on another page) where a user hits a button and it sends them to the order page loaded with the fields pre-populated based on which button they pressed. IE if they pressed option A, the type and colors are pre-populated with a specific type and specific color.

HOWEVER she wants it to pre-populate wihile allowing the user to change it. I need to still ahve the menus in full function.

I understand how i can get the parent menu to pre-populate. however the target menu is tricky and i cant seem to get that to pre-populate.

can the target be pre-populated?

use the populate list from array behavior on the Body tags onload event.

much the same way you add the populate list from array behavior to the parent select list on change event, only this time select the body tag.

Aslo use the Set Selected In List behavior.

the Body tag should have the following behaviors:
set Selected in list - to set the parent list selected element
Populate List from Array - to populate the child list
Set Selected In List - To set the selected item in the child list.

Hi
thanks for the above notes, but i dont see how i can get to those steps. when i edit the "Create dynamic array" in the server behaviors list, i get the option of 4 items: recordset, parent, child, child value. How can i get to the point to make the changes you list above? do i have to remove the current dynamic arrays on the page, and start over ?

I did not say to add another create dynamic array behavior,

I said to add additional Populate List From Array behaviors.

lets review what you have done till now:

- you added the Create Dynamic Array server behavior
- You selected the parent list and added the populate list from array behavior to the onChange event.

what I am saying in my original response is to select the body tag, and add a Set Selected In List behavior, and populate list from array behavior for both the parent and child lists to the OnLoad event. This is very similar to the behavior you added to the parent list onChange event.

Hi

I think I might not be explaining clearly what I was wanted to do.
http://www.boogiebabyusa.com/blankets/Peekaboo-Bear/319.html
if you go here, and just hit continue
on the step 2 you will see FABRIC SELECTIONS, when you select a fabric you get a color option.
this is working fine. I made this page a few years ago, so im not clear on all the steps i took to get it to work. However i believe i did as you described above to populate the list.

BUT
if you see to the left, the other views of the product. we want to add a button that says "order just like this" which basically reloads the page with those fabrics and colors PRE-SELECTED in the menus.

is this possible?

it can be done and will basically take the same steps i listed above.

the Just like button will need to submit the selections to the next page, then using the Set Selected in list behavior on the body on load behavior and the posted details from the previous page you pre select the lists.

If you need help in putting this together, i would suggest signing up for a premiere support appointment where we can help you in a one on one session:
