Can we have a spry validation video tutorial on how to add or remove it... please?

Can we have a spry validation video tutorial on how to add or remove it... please?

I often need to add or remove fields for validation on forms that have been created by data assist or form builder. The validation I try to add or remove never seems to work, so I often end up going back to data assist or form builder and starting again from a preset that I saved for one particular job. If I've done a lot of work on the page after the initial running of the extension, then I loose all that work. I often save a copy of a page to revert back to should I have trouble, and I think every time I have tried, I have had to revert!

You have a video showing how to add a new field, but could we also have a video showing how to add validation to new / existing form items, or how to remove validation no longer needed?

Thanks

Sigh... I wish I had looked properly at the written tutorial you have before posting this!

Firstly I had read it that you needed an eCart store to apply this to, and second I missed the fact you already have a video explaining most of what I have just asked for... so thanks for the video, very enlightening.

I think my problems with validation stem from trying to use DW's built in validation behaviours as I didn't realise you have a tool of your own. So many little gems lay hidden under that '+' button!

I do have a question to ask, so I don't know if this thread should be moved from the wish list to Data Assist, but here goes.

You are putting your validation on two different pages, one is a confirm page and the other is a checkout page. So, before I go through the rigmarole of duplicating pages and multiple undos, do I need two different pages to implement this sort of validation, or can I apply it to the same page the form is on? The data assist or form builder pages seem to have it all on the same page as the form, but I might be wrong.

Thanks

It depends on the Form action.

The example given in that tutorial is for a form (checkout) that has the action set to POST to the confirm page.

Since the action is set to go to another page, the validation needs to be on the other page.

Rule #1 when working with forms:
All Form Processing MUST occur on the page specified by the form tags action attribute.

Always look at the form tag and determine the action of the form and method of the form.

Insert and Update Forms created by the Data Assist wizard create pages wizard will have the action set to post to itself.

These forms will also have server validation already applied. So you can go to the server behaviors panel, double click the server validation server behavior to edit it and add or remove any validations.

Spry validation is separate.

to add a spry validation field, you go to Insert -> Spry and select the type of spry element to add.

to edit the spry settings, select the form element, then click the bounding box, this triggers the spry settings in the properties panel.

spry will add a javascript block at the bottom of the page to define the spry settings for each field.

if you remove a spry element from the page, you also need to delete the corresponding line in the script for that element.
