Date Format

Hi:

I'm using the following (Jason) code to turn dates from dd.mm.yyyy to the DB format (yyyy.mm.dd)

<?php
if($_SERVER["REQUEST_METHOD"] == "POST") {
$_POST['date'] = "".((isset($_POST["date"]))?date("Y-m-d", strtotime($_POST["date"])):"") ."";
}
?>

How can I make it turn a date entry in the American format, mm.dd.yyyy, to the DB format? I've tried a few combinations but I don't get good results.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your attention

Hi a while back I put up this post for date formatting to the page so i am not sure if it help your cause but may be of some help...

showthread.php?t=30300

Basically the date will always be stored in the database in reverse order yyyy-mm-dd

And When I use WebAssist tool such as the DATEPICKER I would select the option in there to format it the same was as the database yyyy-mm-dd

the strtotime() function uses the separator to indicate the date format.

If the separator is a dash, it assumes the European dd mm yyyy format is being used. If the separator is a slash, it assumes the US mm dd yyyy format is being used

if you pass in a UK date using a slash as the separator (23/02/1014), it will fail, or if you pass a US date with a dash (02-23-2014) as the separator it will fail.

If you want to format US dates with a dash, or UK dates with a slash, you will need to convert them in the strtotime() function.

so to pass a US date formatted with a dash, i would use str_replace to replace the dash with a slash:

<?php
if($_SERVER["REQUEST_METHOD"] == "POST") {
$_POST['date'] = "".((isset($_POST["date"]))?date("Y-m-d", strtotime(str_repalce("-", "/", $_POST["date"]))):"") ."";
}
?>

Jason:

Thanks for your reply. I entered the code you suggested, but got this message after submitting the form:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function str_repalce() in C:\xampp\htdocs\Dennis\photos_Insert.php on line 3

Any suggestions?

I just noticed a typo in "replace"....

yes, it should be:
str_replace

instead of:
str_repalce

Your code now does it exactly well.
