Formatting Issues

I have a problem with virtually every website I use PowerCMS on. I have the latest and greatest install as part of the Design Extender package. When my clients log into PowerCMS to edit their pages, whenever they try to Bold any of the text, it looks bold in the editor, Bold in the PowerCMS Preview from the toolbar, but when viewed in ANY browser live, the text is not bold. Every thread I read either doesn't address this or it drops you on your head. Even trying to understand how to use a custom style sheet is so vague, I am having trouble figuring it out. If someone could show me step-by-step so I don't have to ask a million questions, that would be great.
