Linking categories with products

Hi Guys, I have run into a problem and hope someone may be able to help.

I have an (Admin) Product inset page which contains a categoryID for the category Table which works fine. see table below.

I have run DA to create a (customer) category results page that lists all the categories.

Where i am failing is that i want to make make links from the category results page to a product result page showing only the products in the chosen category.

I really hope that this makes sense and also hope some one can help.

kind regards

Jonathon

I have added my categories page if this helps anyone point me in the right direction

Category Table
CategoryID
CategoryName
CategoryImage

Product Table
ProductID
ProductCategoryID
ProductSKU
and so on

run through the Data Assist wizard to create the products search, results and details. on the manage pages tab, edit the configure field settings section, and set the ProductCategoryID column to be a menu, set it to use the categories table, use the category name as the label, and the category ID as the value.

after the products pages are created, open the product search page, select a category and submit the search, make note of the URL variables, you can use that search string as a base for the links from the category details pages to the products results pages, just substitute the category ID from the Category details recordset in the link.

Hi Jason,

In the admin Backend i have it so the customer can add new categories. like wise on the frontend i have run DA to show a list of categories and this is where i want to make the link dynamic.

So when the customer adds a new category it will show on the frontend with a link to the products in the new category.

If this can be done can you help with the query statement

Kind regards

Jonathon

if you create the pages like i outlined previously, there shouldn't be a need for changing the query, the links should be generated automatically.

Hi Jason, Sorry I think i am missing something here and apologise if i am being stupid but can you explain to me how the link will be generated automatically on the category page to link to the associated products page without intervention from me everytime that the customer adds a new category.

Sorry if this sounds a little stupid.

use the search page to get the link structure

then add a link on the category page using the search as a guide and replace the static category ID with the ID from the reocrdset on the product details page.
