General Shipping question/issue

First, should you have a shipping quote on the cart.php page prior to clicking checkout and submitting your shipping address? I do and it's not correct.

Secondly, my shipping rates are wrong and all over the place and I am not sure where I went wrong.

Using the USPS API and from another post I ran this on my confirm page (assumed it goes under the BODY tag)
----------------
<pre>
<?php var_dump($_SESSION);
?>
</pre>
----------------

and this is the output I think you need.
----------------
["eCart1_USPS_FullRequest"]=>
string(344) "API=RateV4&XML=FIRST CLASSPARCEL761207612004REGULARTrue"
["eCart1_USPS_FullResponse"]=>
string(351) "
761207612004REGULARFALSE1First-Class Mail2.12
"
["eCart1_USPS_FullRequestInt"]=>
bool(false)
["eCart1_USPS_FullResponseInt"]=>
string(0) ""
["eCart1_OrderID"]=>
int(7)
----------------

I'm not sure what other info you'll need. And as usual, any help is appreciated!

you may see a shipping quote on the cart page if you have already entered your address, then revisited the cart page.

a rate shown on the cart page may not be accurate. the shipping gets calculated when the checkout page passes to the confirm page, then gets stored in a session.

if you continue shopping after the initial shipping rate is calculated, it wont be recalculated until you go to the checkout page and resubmit the shipping details.

dont be worried by the shipping shown on the cart page, it will get recalculated when you go back through the checkout page to the confirm page.

That makes sense.

Actually I still have an issue. The same issue Michael is having. I added info to his thread.

One new question:
USPS errors if my total weight is less than 0.5 ounces. I have several products that are under this however I can make packaging 0.5 oz so that the weight is not an issue even before anything is in the cart. How would I go about this?
