Connection with ip instead of Url

I need to set up a connection with my database on the ip address temporarily as the url cannot be moved yet to the new host, and I have to work on the database before I switch the dns. I've set it up with the credentials below, but I get "An unidentified error has occurred". I've done this before in the past. I just can't remember the settings that I used. And to connect to the temporary site the address works something like this: ~example

MySQL server: localhost
Username: example_cmsUser
Password: *****
Database: example_cms

the unidentified error message means that there is a problem with the settings for the testing server connection in dreamweaver.

double check that the settings to connect to the testing serve are correct.

I kind of knew that. That's why I'm asking if my connection settings are wrong. I have to work with the database before I redirect the dns to the hosting. I just can't seem to get a connection going with the database via my ip connections (number as compared to name). I was sure I did this quite some time ago. I'm not sure if I replaced the "localhost" with the actual ip address or how I had set it up. I would know exactly what to do if I could work with an actual domain name.

All I know is, I have quite some information to setup before I can redirect the dns. So I would like to do it before hand, and my client doesn't have any ftp access into his website, so it's not like I can even upload a copy of his old site for now.

One of the errors I'm getting is: The testing server specified for this site does not map to the MMHTTPPDB.php URL. Verify that the URL prefix maps to the root of the site.

Obviously I'm not entering something correctly. It would be a whole lot easier if I could have used the domain name. This would already be done by now, but alas I do not have that option. :P

i have no way of knowing if the database connection details are correct or not, only your host would be able to tell you that.

the error:
The testing server specified for this site does not map to the MMHTTPPDB.php URL. Verify that the URL prefix maps to the root of the site.

means that the URL Prefix you entered for the testing server:
70.33.209.144/

does not map to the other settings for the site.

in your initial message, you said the address was:
~example

so that is what you should be using the for the URL Prefix, including the subdirectory.

the URL Prefix needs to be the web address that maps to location on the server that the FTP details are pointing to.

it you where to create a page named test in the root of the dreamweaver site and upload it to the testing server, what would the address be to access that page? that is the URL Prefix
