Guestbook?

Greetings. I have had a request from a client to create a Guestbook for a website. Any suggestions or ideas on how I would do this with PowerCMS builder. Can it be done?

Or do you have any other ideas that you would recommend?

Thanks,
Martin

Power CMS Builder for a guest book is a bit like using a 50 pound sledgehammer to hang a picture.

all you really need is to use Data Assist insert record.

create the guest book form. Then add the insert record behavior to save the entered data to a table.

LOL!

Do you have a tutorial on how to do this? I imagine, I need to create a bunch of database fields in the Power CMS DB, then add in all sorts of show/hide events and post approval etc.

Thanks again,
Martin

a guest book is really just a simple insert.

a form that allows the users to enter their name or other data you wish to collect and stores that in a guest book table. No need for show regions or post approval, I'm not sure where that comes from.

perhaps you are trying to create something other than a guest book, but in my expieincek, a guest book is just used to capture information about users that visit your site.

Thanks for the feedback Jason! Much appreciated!

The guestbook I would like to create is similar to this one.

guestbook-2/

I would like to have who it was posted by, the time, the comments and URL if applicable.

I would also like to have the post stay pending until I approve it. That way saving on people spamming and posting negative stuff.

Do you have any suggestions as to how to go about this using WA tools? (which I own everything of course!)

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

you would need a table with columns for time, the comments, URL, and status.

set the default value for status to 0

create a form with a elements to enter the comments and URL

since the status is set to default to 0 (we'll use that for pending) new entries will automatically be set to pending.

on the page where you show the entries, use a where clause to only show entries where the status is = 1.

you would create an admin page where you can review all entries where the status is 0 and update them to 1 if you wish, or delete them if they don't pass your inspection.
