Universal Email Set Up

Universal Email Set Up

Hi,

I'm confused as usual it seems.

Having created the form for visters to subscribe to a monthly newsletter, I am trying to set up the universal email message as per the universal email tutorial. The subscription form is located in the right column on each page - generated from the template and applying insert record on each page individually.

Do I create a new universal email page for every newsletter? Or do I create one page and use that every time? Or do I create another form on that single page using Form Builder and use that same form to create each new newsletter - if so, do I apply the universal email setting within Form Builder?

Thank you!

in the other thread you started asking about a sign up form, i suggested creating on page with a form in it, and adding the insert record behavior to that one page.

then you can add the form to your template and change the action of the form in the template to post to the main page that you create. This is the way you should be doing this.

by creating multiple pages with the same form on it, you adding a layer of complexity that is not needed, and con only come back to haunt you.

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply.

It's already haunting me...

I have the code in the column on all of the template pages in an optional region. I think it may be worse to try to remove it...

The insert record behavior is working, inserting the correct information into the databse, on the pages I individually apply it to.

What you are asking me to do is remove the email text box where visitors can elect to receive emails. I can do this; however, this would mean they will be redirected to the page with the sign up form on it. One single page; where as with the email option in the column, they would be able to sign up on any page at anytime and it looks great. If they were duplicated, the error message appears... I'm okay with this primarily because of asthetics. To me, it's worth the bit of extra work... at least at this point.

I thought with the insert behavior the same on all pages with the form in the column, I would only need to apply the UE one time, since it's using the results from the subscriptions email database column.

Back to the question. Can I add a Form Builder Form to create the email message, then will I have a send button to send the newsletter emails?
Or do I use the UE interface and if so, do I have to create new one with each monthly newsletter for example? I would like a way to store the monthly newsletters somehow... I'm not finding where this is explained anywhere...

Thank you... sorry...

since the form is already built, you need to use universal Email

sending the newsletter though wont happen on the signup up page.

you would create an admin page that you using for creating the news letter using an HTML Editor instance.

Hi Jason,

Okay, the page is set up as you specified in an admin page.

I'm still trying to figure out how to create a trigger... aside from that for now - for the time being the trigger is set at current page submit.

when I try to set the option to set the record set loop to pull the email addresses from the database, I am unable to activate it.

I double clicked on the To field. The Create Email Message: To Settings dialog box is open.

I selected Send Email: Once per entry.

Then I'm stuck.

Thank you!

you have to create a recordset on the page first that will return the email addresses, then add Universal Email to the page, click on the to button, and select recordset loop.

Hi Jason,

I thought I had done that already... after all of today's discussion I feel like an idiot

I'm still trying to get this to work... it's the email... I'll ask again tomorrow if I'm unable to figure it out tonight.

Thanks!!
