mamp

Hi,

I'm using DataAssist to build my site. All has been going well, but recently I've had problems connecting to my local server to view my site locally before publishing to my live server. My local server was set up using MAMP a couple years ago. Everything was going fine until I upgraded to OS Lion this past week. Since I could not view my website on my local server, next I upgraded the latest version of Mamp. In Mamp, I try to also access the start page and it gives me a page not found error (similar to the error I get when trying to view my website). The MySql and Apache green lights are on... not sure what's going on.

This is likely a MAMP or OS Lion issue. But you guys are so Awesome, I wondered if anyone is familiar with the problem or could point me to a GOOD web forum for help. I have been searching and turned up nothing of use. I did report the problem on the Mamp forum site, but have received no approval for the post. It seems that the Mamp forum/support is very little.

Sorry again if this is off topic, if you have any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
Danielle

In the Mamp preferences, what is the port set to? The default is port 80 for Apache and 8889 for MySQL.

if is using port 80 for Apache, then the address:
localhost

should work to access your site.

If it is using a different port, it needs to be included in the address, for example, if the port where set to 8080:

localhost:8080

If it is using port 80, and the localhost address is not working, you may have other software installed that is using port 80 like Skype. Try changing the Apache port to 8080, if it works when changing the port, then you have a conflict trying to use port 80

I use xammp and never had an issue with it. I just downloaded it and loaded it into my applications folder... that might help if you're still struggling.
