You probably just need to update your images to use site root relative paths.

Since the edit mode is shown on a page in the admin_cms folder, it won't find images that use a relative path...

for instance if you have content on your home page with

in the admin folder it wouldn't find the image, because that would map to: admin_cms/images/test.jpg

However if your original image used: then it could display from both locations.

what is the full url for the page where using:

shows the image on the page correctly but does not show in edit mode?

if i change path in edit mode to /aw/images/test.jpg
it shows image on edit mode. when i reload content now it is showing image with /aw/ but not showing others originally listed as /images/test.jpg.

all images needs to include the full path in front of the image name:
/aw/images/

This is the site relative path to the images folder that will show the images correctly on any page in your site.
