An alternative to bing

Don't know if you're aware of this, but I have just been pointed to lucene.apache.org/ which is a free, open source search engine.

Is this something that webassist is able to create an installer for to make it easy to implement?

I assume there would be some sort of copyright or licensing issue to sort out, but if you are just creating an extension that helps us to install it I can't see that being a hurdle... it's much like the method of the extensions that install google maps, google search, or the Bing search itself.

Thought I'd share it with you as I am told it is a very good open source search facility that is hosted on our websites, and will always work rather than have to rely on a remote service and hope it remains in service and remains unchanged.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have forwarded this to our engineers for consideration as a possible replacement for Bing.

Any update

Is there any progress on the Bing alternative?

Being someone who has shelled out for both Yahoo and Bing search extensions I'm keen on using somehting that wont go belly up after a few months :)
