I am not seeing the problem, the black x to close the message is showing beside the text for me, not over it.

in the webassist/validation_tooltips/validation_tooltips.css file, edit the width of the .WA_SpryValidationTooltip_errorWrapper selector:

.WA_SpryValidationTooltip_errorWrapper {
border-style: solid;
padding: 10px;
white-space: nowrap;
width: 100px;
}

so it will be wide enough to fit the error message.

it looks like you removed the width attribute instead of editing it.

dont remove the width attribute, originally it was set to 100px:

.WA_SpryValidationTooltip_errorWrapper {
border-style: solid;
padding: 10px;
white-space: nowrap;
width: 100px;
}

my suggestion was to edit it:

.WA_SpryValidationTooltip_errorWrapper {
border-style: solid;
padding: 10px;
white-space: nowrap;
width: 120px;
}

Now it appears this file has been taken down or cleared: validation_tooltips.js

You'll have to upload that file for me to debug and see what else might be going on.
