Can't connect to database

I tried using Power CMS for the first time and when I hit the Test button in the Define section of Connection, I get an undefined error. I've checked, double, and triple checked my information. I know it's correct because I've actually copied and pasted it from Power CMS to Navicat. If I just close the Connection Define wizard, and hit finish, I see the initial files get uploaded. I click Finish and get an error message stating Errors were encountered when connecting to your database. Upon clicking Okay I get another error message saying An unidentified error has occurred. That is followed by a third message stating Click the 'Define...' button and correct the connection issues before continuing.

I've gone through this process three times. I deleted the Connections folder from the site root and tried restarting to no avail.

I'm running Mac OSX Lion and the remote database is using MySQL5.

Error when creating PowerCMS Content Area

When walking through the wizard to create a PowerCMS content area I am able to define a connection to the data base and test without problems though when completing the wizard and clicking "finish" i receive a message stating "Unable to edit your database with the provided user credentials. Please make sure the connection user has write access to the database."
I've checked and rechecked this several times and have full access to editing the database with the user I'm specifying.
Any thoughts or ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks,
Bill

in your Dreamweaver site settings, how is the connection to the testing server defined?

the most common cause of this error is the testing server settings.

In the testing server settings, are you connecting to a local testing server or a remote server through FTP?

make sure that the Web URL and Root Directory settings are set properly.

The web URL should be a full URL to the site on your testing server.

the Root Directory needs to be the path to the directory on the server that matches the Web URL. This settings is especially important if you are connecting to a remote server using FTP. When you log into some FTP Servers, you may be outside of the web root, if this is the case on your server, you need to specify the web root directory.

Thanks Jason,

My mistake was that I hadn't already made a database connection n Dreamweaver. I thought PowerCMS would do that for me. All is good now.
