Meta Tags etc and site visibility - What to do!

I have just about completed a site after having major difficulties getting information from my customer over a two year period. In fact I shall I think use this product once and upgrade.

Anyway, I am at the point where I am considering what should be placed and where to make the site search engine friendly on sites built in this way. Can somebody please pass on some general thoughts about what I should incorporate and where it should be incorporated in a site built the site professional way.

Regards

Dave
