Client Validation with PowerCMS

Client Validation with PowerCMS

I cannot get client validation to work with PowerCMS. I am using the admin template that comes with PowerCMS to create some more data assist dynamic pages and when I try to apply the client validation to my forms, it does put the validation scheme into the page, but I noticed that it keeps denoting forms[0] instead of the one I actually picked (such as WADAInsertRecord, WADAUpdate, etc.).

Does anyone know of a reason or what script in PowerCMS may be causing Client Validation in the Validation tool kit to not work correctly?

Thanks,

Brian

Is it the first form on the page? It may need to be updated to forms[1] if there is another form on the page already.

Hi Ray,

It is the second form on the page because the PowerCMS Search box is the first form on the page.

But, while I understand that I could easily just change the form array from forms[0] to forms[1], it still doesn't identify the correct inputs. For example, if I had fields such as blogdate and blogtitle - instead of identifying them as forms[0].blogdate, etc.; it instead makes everything I want to validate say forms[0].S_keyword referring back to the only field in the search form, even though I have specifically selected the input in the second form.

The only way to correct it, while inconvenient, has been to go into the "tag" behaviors and adjust them individually. Is this the only way to do this, or is that just a nuance of client validation? I would also be ok with using server validation if there was a way to create the automatic date reformatting such as the way you can do that in client validation.

Thanks,

Brian

It sounds like a bug of some sort when using client validation on a page with multiple forms.

You can do the reformatting with server validation by hand.. what do you need reformatted?

Hi Ray,

I have been able to reformat by hand, but I do believe there is some sort of bug.

Here's what happens - when I go through the Client Validation dialogue box, even though I am specifically selecting the form items I want to validate, it ends up putting them on the page as "documents.forms[0].S_keyword" for every single item... even though I selected different items for each on a completely different form.

Then, to fix it, I can click on each item in the right hand window for "Tag" behaviors and then I can pair each validation up with the correct form item and then it properly inserts the forms[1]."selected_item". So, there is a work-around but it is a little inconvenient as I depend on extensions like this to speed up work flow.

Thanks,

Brian

I will log this as a bug. In the next version we will use the formID and set an ID to forms that don't have one. We used the index in the past since some forms were unnamed or without IDs. This should address the problem.
